MISMATCHED | A POEM

I always thought time would bring us together
Because seasons do that
And so does the weather
They rely on futurity
To pivot their beings
They counsel the sun
Into securely believing

But I’ve reckoned with change
Begged for its crown
Thinking hearts must become like
If long kept in a jar
But a bottle is glass
It’s not honey, it’s ice
And our feelings won't yield
To Time's desperate price

I will say goodbye
I think, you can go
Take off the lid
Shake off the snow
Months of confinement
Have only rehearsed
The lack of contentment
Our small universe

Has felt since beat three
On an unschooled day
We mistook it good-looking
For bitter and grey

A birch can’t be shifted
Save, where it fell
Our hearts do not fit
So I told him: oh well
