ABOUT US
Where it began...
My relationship with ageing, dementia and end-of-life care began long before I knew there was a name for this work.
As a child, I spent school holidays alongside my mother, a private nurse, caring for people living with dementia and those nearing the end of life. Those early experiences taught me something that has stayed with me ever since:
When stories are preserved and practical matters are organised, families are free to focus on love, connection and remembrance.
Today, through By My Bedside, I help people preserve stories, music, memories, photographs and important information, creating lasting collections for the people they love.
Dory Miller
“Lou has sat with me online for endless hours helping me create something for my family that I am not able to manage alone. She listened to my stories, helped me choose the photographs and my favourite music and gently guided me through the things I want to say. I was afraid it would feel sad or overwhelming but it wasn't at all because she is light and we laugh a lot. Knowing my family will have my voice, my memories and my love after I am gone, brings me enormous comfort and she understands how very important it is to me. I can't thank her enough for her empathy, presence and time. It's not yet finished but I fully support what she is doing and wanted to add my testimonial now.
That’s completely understandable.
You may have questions about what I offer,
how the process works,
how much time it takes, or how to begin talking about this with someone you love.
We can start with a simple conversation and take it gently, one step at a time.
